Each time a major honors show approaches, there’s always a clamor for introducing additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of fans who have specialized interests.
A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. The same goes for strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front because like all blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing and significant. The demand is this: We need an award type for logic-based games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents a necessary evil for the industry of video games, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.
Current Gaming Award Categories
The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass numerous genres, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly that have no home at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.
- A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
- Another creative title received no nominations in 2019
- Popular arranging title got ignored that year
- Just some logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Value of Brain-Teasers
Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most engaged experiences globally continuing this trend for over a decade.
The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.
Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators function at the hard edge game development, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
